Dharam Shourie, New York: An overwhelming 85 per cent of the Americans feel that global warning is probably happening and two-thirds say President George W Bush did little to help the environment, a new poll shows.More than 54 per cent blame American business for doing nothing for environment and three-quarters want to see Bush, Congress, American business and American public take action in this direction.One-third of the respondents said that they themselves give a lot of through to the impact they were having on the environment, a poll conducted for Time magazine, ABC News and Stanford University said yesterday.A vast majority of 88 per cent thinks global warming threatens future generations. More than half (60 per cent) say it threatens them a great deal. About four-in-ten (38 per cent) feel that global warming is already a serious problem, 47 per cent say that it will be a problem in the future.Half of Americans (52 per cent) say weather patterns in the county where they live have become more unstable in the last three years and half (50 per cent) feel that average temperatures have risen in their county.A majority (70 per cent) thinks weather patterns globally have become more unstable in the last three years and more than half (56 per cent) feel average temperatures around the world have risen.Almost half (49 per cent) say the issue of global warming is 'extremely' or 'very important' to them personally, up from 31per cent in 1998.
