Global warming could sink Victoria, group says

An environmental group says most of the Victoria region will be left under water in a worst-case scenario of global warming.

The Sierra Club of Canada has released two maps showing what would happen if sea levels rose between six and 25 metres.

A six-metre increase would flood parts of downtown Victoria, the Swartz Bay B.C. Ferry terminal and many coastal homes.

A 25-metre rise in sea level would submerge 75 per cent of the Victoria area, including the B.C. Legislature, the historic Empress Hotel and the city airport.
