RECEPTION REPORT from FINLAND

Açık Radyo

Greetings from Finland

Thank you for a very special listening experience! I was surprised to hear Açık Radyo 94.9 here in Finland on Wednesday 8th of July 2015. At around 13:59 your local time I was hearing commercial spot and top of an hours station identification “Açık Radyo“. Please listen the enclosed audio file (94,9AcikRadyo_080715_1059UTC.mp3) I have recorded part of your program. It was great to hear your signal so far away and I hope the recording is of interest.

I am a 41 year old guy from Pirkkala, Finland. I am working as IT-instructor and web master at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Tampere. My favorite hobby is listening to foreign radio stations (DX-listening).

When I have free time, I like to spend it listening to foreign radio stations at my home or in a small cottage only a couple of kilometers away from the Tampere city center. As you may know, DX-listener is a person who tries to catch radio stations from far away countries and sends reception reports to the stations which he has heard. Personally I have verifications from about 150 different countries and over 1000 different stations. Now I would like to add the verification of your station to my collections.

I received your station as follows:

Date and time:          8th of July 2015. 13:59- Turkish local time
Frequency:              94.90 MHz
Receiver:               Sony XDR-F1HD Radio tuner
Antenna:                7-elementic H-pol FM yagi-antenna

As an radio enthusiast I am collecting verifications from radio stations. In order to add Açık Radyo to my collection I need your written confirmation that I have heard your station. So if you could write me a short letter that verifies I have heard Açık Radyo I would be most grateful. Verification text could be something like:

"I can confirm that you heard our station Açık Radyo 94.9MHz on the 8th of July 2015."

Atmospheric phenomena called sporadic-E (or Es) sometimes makes it possible to hear FM-radio signals from over 1500 kilometers away of the transmitter site. During this kind of conditions FM-signals bounce back from atmosphere's so called E-layer. This phenomena is relatively common in summer months but usually doesn't exist in winter time. On the 8th of July 2015 during that kind of Es-skip conditions I was able to hear FM stations from Central Europe, the Balkans and Turkey here in Finland. One of the most interesting was your station Açık Radyo.

My home town Pirkkala is a small county (population about 18000) next to the city of Tampere which is the second biggest city in Finland. My place is situated in South West Finland some 200 kilometers from the capital city Helsinki. Here in Tampere area we have a local radio listeners club, The DX-Club of Tampere. We have some 30 active members, regular meetings and our own listening cottage by side of Lake Näsijärvi. We also publish our own 'Kantoaalto' (Carrier Wave) -magazine. As the editor of our magazine I would be glad to write some words of your station too!

This was the first time I heard your station. I very much enjoyed listening to your program if only for a short while. I am very interested to know more about your radio station. I would be very grateful if you could answer this letter and verify that I heard your station. It would be great to receive your verification letter, QSL-card or e-mail. Thank you very much in advance.

All the best to the whole staff of your station! I am looking forward to your reply in the near future.

With the best wishes,
